Settled in 1673, Woodbury has a long and rich history with its abundance of Colonial, Greek revival and Victorian
mansions, as well as many historic points of interest listed on The National Register of Historic Places. Mixed
with antique shops and art galleries are: the Hurd House Museum, one of the earliest houses on its original site
in Connecticut; King Solomon Masonic Temple, the oldest Masonic Lodge in continuous use in the state; and The
Curtis House - Connecticut's first Inn. Woodbury is also home to the notable Glebe House Museum, a robin's egg
blue house that claims to be the birthplace of Episcopalianism in America and outside is the only known garden
in the United States designed by the famed landscape architect Gertrude Jekyll.
Woodbury's reputation as an "Antiques Capital" began over 50 years ago as legendary dealers such as Kenneth Hammitt,
Ethel Bjerkoe, Mason Stewart, Moira Wallace, Ignatius Weiss, and Howard and Priscilla Richmond, established their
businesses in historic homes on and around Main Street. They were soon joined by long time current Woodbury shop
owners
who established Woodbury as a favorite rural antiquing destination for Collectors, Decorators and Dealers alike.
As a result, many shops are now second and third generation antiques dealers.
The town continues to attract many new dealers and art galleries both large and small. Today, Woodbury allows
you to visit over 30 dealers, offering virtually all categories, periods and styles of antiques, related
accessories, gifts and bench-made reproductions from every corner of the world.
The Woodbury Antiques Dealers Association was established by a group of its present dealers in the early 1980's.
Currently, WADA is made up of over 30 member dealers located in Woodbury, and one in adjoining Roxbury. The
